Japanese soldier Colonel Watanabe Tsunahiko, the commander of 11th Infantry Regiment, part of the 9th Infantry Brigade of the 5th Division, Imperial Japanese Army, during the Malaya campaign.  Elements of his regiment reached Mount Pleasant Road in the outskirts of Singapore when the British surrendered on 15th February 1942.  Watanabe was executed at Kuala Lumpur in 1948 for his role in the massacring of Chinese civilians at Kuala Pilah and Parit Tinggi in March 1942.
