Synopsis

*Parents had faith in the teachers then. Reasons for the emphasis on 3 R's (reading, writing and arithmetic). Yearly school inspection. No promotion prospects for teachers. Teachers were well paid then. Why interviewee was asked to write the school song. There was a widow and orphans' fund pre-war. Criteria for entitlement. Scholarships and busaries were available to poor students. Annual medical check-up in school.
