Synopsis
Family background. His education in Malacca and Penang. Became a teacher in Malacca. Joined Straits Settlement Volunteer Force in 1928. Mobilised in 1941. Battalion moved to Singapore. Put up beach defences and tents. How he evacuated families of his men to Singapore. Called to defend along Farrer Road/Adam Road. Met retreating British troops in Bukit Timah near Sixth Avenue. Ordered to retreat to Kheam Hock Road.
