Synopsis

Family background of eight siblings.  Why took up nursing after Senior Cambridge - interest through nurses' treatment of mother's illness.  Mother against her becoming a nurse. Growing up as Peranakan girl in 1920s.  School attended, subjects taken, her essay `Castles in the Air' on nursing.  All four sisters in nursing, why she forgo opportunity in hospital administration, family economic background.  How she went about applying for nursing, how war interrupted training.  Training in general nursing, midwifery and staff nurse/sistership.  Nursing career from 1948.  One of  first Asian nurses in 1950s.  Main aspects of nursing training in different types of wards, exams taken.
