Synopsis

Interviewee was born in Singapore and grew up in the Bukit Timah area, near a Malay kampong and Eveready factory.  His mother ran a provision shop Sin Soon Huat.  His mother bid for a durian plantation at what was currently the Dairy Farm Road area.  The family had a television set when it was first introduced in Singapore.   Movie screenings were held at the St Jospeh’s Church and Boys’ Town (later called Assumption English School).  During St Joseph’s Church Fest Day, street hawkers would set up stalls along the road.  He talked about celebration of festivals.
