Pioneers of Singapore
About Project
At one time referred to as the “Millionaires” project, this was one of the first two oral history projects undertaken by the then Oral History Unit after it was established in 1979. The objective was to document the lives of business and social leaders from the early to mid-1900s.
What we find in the collection are numerous rags-to-riches stories, recording interviewees’ contributions to Singapore’s development in the economic and social spheres. Interviewees include businessman Rajabali Jumabhoy, entrepreneur and banker Lien Ying Chow, and film and entertainment industry pioneer Tan Sri Dr Runme Shaw.
