Surveyed with Captain Samuel Congalton of the steamer, Diana.  Thomson’s hydrographic survey was the first detailed hydrographic survey to be conducted by a locally based surveyor. This is one of the most important and detailed early hydrographic maps of the Singapore Strait

This hydrographic chart shows soundings in Straits of Singapore, North Channel, Middle Channel, South Channel to Bintang (Bintan) Island, with ship wreck positions shown, and Rhio (Riau) Strait, islands, shoals, rocks, reefs, submarine contours, estuaries, some hachures, hill summits with heights in feet (Little Johore Hill (Gunong Bow), Barbukit (Bukit Santee), Johore Hill (Maroobukit), Bintang Little Hill (Bukit Kidjang), Bintang Large Hill (Gunang Bintang)) , settlements, Horsburgh Lighthouse, Middle Rocks, Part of Johore, Pulo Tikong (Pulau Tekong) Besar, and others.
