The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) was set up on 15 March 1979 to take charge of all economic matters previously under the purview of the Development Division of the Ministry of Finance. Its main functions are to promote high and stable levels of economic growth and employment through facilitating the development of industry sectors, protecting Singapore's international trade interests and providing a good understanding of the current state of and outlook for the Singapore economy. It has several statutory bodies under its purview, including the JTC Corporation, Economic Development Board, Singapore Tourism Board and Sentosa Development Corporation.
