Singapore. Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology is a department in the Support Services Division of the Ministry of Health.

This department provides a full range of clinical biochemistry tests, bacteriology, microbiology, virology, serology, histopathology and forensic pathology services to all government hospitals and clinics. In 1988, intensive preparations were made to restructure the department (except forensic pathology) under the Singapore General Hospital Pte Ltd, to be implemented in January 1989. In connection with this restructuring, preparations were made to farm out the medical laboratory services. Under this system, the government hospitals and clinics buy services from either private laboratories or from the restructured hospitals.

Following this restructuring, a new Department of Forensic Medicine was created to provide forensic pathology and forensic medicine services to hospitals and police in medico-legal cases.
