Packaging SME Jackway Convertor Industries
Invests $12 Million in Clean Room Facility
1. Packaging SME Jackway Convertor Industries Pte Ltd officially opened its clean room packaging facility today. The $12 million investment has enabled Jackway to achieve ISO Class 8 Clean Room Certification[1]. With this certification, Jackway can now cater to more stringent needs of the food manufacturing industry and at the same time diversify into new areas such as pharmaceutical and nutritional food products.
2. Supported by SPRING Singapore under the Technology Innovation Programme, the clean room provides a sterile environment that protects products from the potential ravages of contamination, dust particles and other impurities. This allows Jackway to manufacture high-grade packaging that requires specialized instruments to maintain precise levels of air quality, temperature and humidity. Such processes are needed by clients with high hygiene requirements.
3. At the opening ceremony today, SPRING Singapore’s Chief Executive Mr Png Cheong Boon believed that Jackway was an excellent example of an SME that was determined and committed to continuously upgrade its capabilities, develop new products and expand beyond the domestic market to become a globally competitive enterprise. He said, “Its investment in innovation and R&D has resulted in the development of a new window zipper pouch for the food industry as well as the use of more environmentally-friendly packaging materials. Its investment in new production technologies has also helped it to meet the more stringent requirements in the pharmaceutical and nutritional industries, as well as in the US and European markets.”
4. Mr Png also added that SPRING Singapore, together with partner agencies, private sector organizations and trade associations and chambers, was committed to support SMEs in their upgrading and growth. He said, “We hope that more SMEs can tap these programmes to upgrade and innovate their businesses, seize the exciting and abundant opportunities in the global markets, and grow to become strong Singapore brands and leaders in their respective industries in the global marketplace.”
5. Mr Robin Yap, Managing Director of Jackway Convertor Industries said, “The company uses the most advanced technology that allows us to operate at the highest levels of productivity required by the demands of multi-faceted packaging activities. We are especially proud that our company has clean room manufacturing facilities. This gives us the proficient capacity to expand our product range to handle the manufacturing of flexible packaging for clients with high hygiene requirements.”
6. Jackway has continuously reinvented itself and upgraded its capabilities to seek new growth opportunities. It is a key supplier to some 70% of the local food manufacturers and exports to Russia, Australia, Japan, Pakistan as well as regional markets like Malaysia and Thailand.
7. Jackway intends to move into environmental packaging. It has acquired a laminating machine which adopts environmentally-friendly processes. The machine replaces traditional ink used in printing with water-based solvent and chemical bonding glue with water glue. This will open doors for Jackway to tap markets with higher environmental needs such as the United States and Europe.
