COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY INTO THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT AT THE MRT CIRCLE LINE WORKSITE THAT LED TO THE COLLAPSE OF THE NICOLL HIGHWAY ON 20 APRIL 2004

The Committee of Inquiry[1]  appointed by the Acting Minister for Manpower to inquire into the cause of the incident at the MRT Circle Line worksite that led to the collapse of the Nicoll Highway will commence its Inquiry at the Subordinate Courts, District Court 1 on 2 August 2004 at 9am.  About 154 witnesses are expected to give evidence at the Inquiry.  Several of the Experts engaged by the interested parties[2] are also expected to give evidence at the Inquiry.

The Inquiry will require about six to eight weeks to complete and will continue until completion beyond that period if necessary.

 



[1] Senior District Judge, Mr Richard Magnus, has been appointed as Chairman of the Committee of Inquiry. He will be assisted by two assessors, Associate Professor Teh Cee Ing, Head, Division of Geotechnical & Transportation Engineering, Nanyang Technological University and Mr Lau Joo Ming, Director, Building Technology Department, Housing and Development Board.
