CHANGES TO APPOINTMENT AT MAJLIS UGAMA ISLAM SINGAPURA (MUIS)
The President of the Republic of Singapore has approved the appointment of Mr Mohammad Alami Musa as Vice-President, Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) from 1 July 2003 and as President, MUIS from 1 September 2003. Mr Mohammad Alami Musa, 46, will be seconded from the Public Utilities Board to MUIS for a period of two years.
The current President of MUIS, Haji Maarof bin Haji Salleh, 54, will leave MUIS on 1 September to join the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies as a Visiting Fellow on the same day.
Haji Maarof became President, MUIS on November 1997. During his term as President, MUIS, Haji Maarof led efforts to strengthen and develop religious education. He initiated a review of the madrasah curriculum to ensure that it continues to remain relevant and progressive.
Haji Maarof supported the efforts of mosques in community bonding and social development. He strengthened MUIS’ links with the community, through establishing networks for community and religious leaders. He also led MUIS towards greater collaboration with Muslim and non-Muslim organisations.
MUIS is a statutory board of the Ministry of Community Development and Sports.
