The Government has appointed Brigadier-General (Retired) Michael Teo Eng Cheng, 54, as Singapore�s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. BG Michael Teo will be concurrently accredited to Ireland. He will assume post in London on 21 January 2002.

BG Michael Teo was Singapore's Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from August 1996 to December 2001 and Singapore�s High Commissioner to New Zealand from February 1994 to July 1996.

BG Teo obtained his Master of Arts degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA, in 1993. He received the Public Administration Medal (Gold) (Military) in 1989.

BG Teo is married to Madam Joyce Ng and they have two children.
