MINISTRY OF MANPOWER LAUNCHES
THE "DISTRIBUTED CAREERLINK NETWORK"
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 13 organisations to establish a Distributed CareerLink Network on Friday, 7 December 2001. A total of S$3.2 million will be provided to the respective organisations, signifying the Government’s commitment in partnering the people sector to assist Singaporeans during the current economic downturn.
CareerLink@mom – MOM’s career centre
The Ministry operates a Career Centre, known as CareerLink@mom, at its premises at MOM Building at Havelock Road. The centre offers a convenient one-stop service to help Singaporeans meet their immediate employment and training needs and enhance their long-term employability. Its main focus is to provide information and advice on labour market trends, job opportunities and training opportunities, with the view toward promoting personal responsibility in career planning and learning. Distributed CareerLink Network
To extend its career centre services to more Singaporeans, MOM has developed the Distributed CareerLink Network. This is a network of career centres available at MOM as well as through its Associates namely the Community Development Councils (CDC), Self-Help Groups, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) and Singapore Professional and Executives Co-operative (SPECs). Partners of the Network will provide employment, career-counselling and training-related services to their clients, members, or communities with the broad aim of assisting them cope with the ongoing recession. Participating organisations in the Distributed CareerLink Network will be known as CareerLink Associates. Please refer to Annex A for the organisations under the new programme.
Through the signing of the MOU, the Ministry will be committing $3.2 million to the initiative over the next year. The Associates will be able to use the financial support in areas such as the employment of staff, rental, renovation or furnishing of the premises, purchase of relevant employment and training related publications as well as for marketing and advertising expenses of their services.
MOM will continue to help workers cope with job search and skills upgrading by working with organisations in the people sector to explore we can provide better job referral, training and counselling services to Singaporeans.
