CHANGE OF CHIEF OF AIR FORCE

The President has accepted the advice of the Prime Minister that:

Major-General (MAJ-GEN) Raymund Ng Teck Heng relinquish his appointment as Chief of Air Force on 1 Apr 2001, and that Brigadier-General (BG) Lim Kim Choon, currently Head, Air Operations Department and concurrently Chief of Staff (Air Staff), be appointed Chief of Air Force with effect from 1 Apr 2001.

The Prime Minister made this recommendation to the President following consultation with the Armed Forces Council.

The change is part of the continuing process of leadership renewal and to release talented SAF officers to serve in other positions in the public and private sectors. MAJ-GEN Ng will join Singapore Airlines Limited as Senior Vice President (Flight Operations Projects) on 1 Jul 2001.

Since his enlistment in 1974, MAJ-GEN Ng has served the SAF with distinction. As Chief of Air Force, MAJ-GEN Ng was instrumental in enhancing the operational capabilities of the RSAF. He also contributed significantly to the development of flying training in several overseas detachments, and has provided valuable leadership and direction for the RSAF 2015 study.

The incoming Chief of Air Force, BG Lim, aged 42, joined the SAF in Dec 1976 and is a fighter pilot. He was awarded the SAF Overseas Scholarship in 1977. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Production Engineering from the University of Loughborough, UK and a Master of Science (Management) Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. In the course of his military career, he has held, amongst others, the appointments of Head, Air Intelligence Department, Deputy Commander, Tengah Air Base and Commander, Tengah Air Base.

The Ministry of Defence wishes to express its deep appreciation to MAJ-GEN Ng for his sterling service and outstanding contributions to the development of the Singapore Armed Forces.
