  Singapore will assume its seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on 1 Jan 2001. Our membership in the UNSC will be for a period of two years from 1 Jan 2001 to 31 Dec 2002. Singapore will also take over, from the Russian Federation, the Presidency of the UNSC for the month of January 2001. The Presidency of the UNSC rotates alphabetically among the members of the UNSC on a monthly basis.
