APPOINTMENT OF MR KISHORE MAHBUBANI AS PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK

 

 

The Government has appointed Mr Kishore Mahbubani, 49, as Singapore�s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

 

 

Mr Mahbubani, a career diplomat, has been with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1971. He has served in the overseas missions in Cambodia, Kuala Lumpur, Washington D.C. He was Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (and concurrently High Commissioner to Canada and as Ambassador to Mexico from 1984-1989) before being appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry in October 1993.

 

 

A President�s Scholar, Mr Mahbubani studied philosophy in the University of Singapore and in Dalhousie University, Canada. He served as a Fellow at the Center for International Affairs, Harvard University from 1991-1992. He has also served on the boards of several companies and institutes in Singapore.

 

 

Mr Mahbubani is married to Anne King Markey. They have three children.
