Synopsis :Guests assembled for 'the Commencement of the Archaeological Excavation of Istana Kampong Gelam, 17 March 2000 and Recitation of Doa Selamat at the Taman Warisan Melayu'; the Guest-of-Honour Chairman of the Malay Heritage Foundation gives an address welcoming people to the premises of the Taman Warisan Melayu (Malay Heritage Centre), the archaeological excavation of Istana Kampong Gelam being a significant step in the development of the Centre; the Chairman outlines the historical importance of Istana Kampong Gelam and how they hoped that the excavation will uncover everyday items and help to document the early history of the building; he thanks volunteers and outlines the plans for the excavation and subsequent restoration and conservation of the Istana Kampong Gelam, stressing the need for community support; speech is repeated in Malay.
