He says the formation of the Singapore National Employers' Federation (SNEF), with the amalagamation of the National Employers' Council (NEC) and the Singapore Employers' Federation (SEF), is a major milestone in the development of the collective representation of employers. The SNEF is in a better position to improve assistance in industrial relations. (Duration: 00:12:34)

    2) Minister for Finance Hon Sui Sen officiates at the Raffles City Ground Breaking Ceremony on 14/08/1980. He says the 'haloed institution' Raffles Institution (RI) which stands on the site of Raffles City, 'falls a victim of progress', and briefly recounts its history. The Raffles City, the new complex, is vastly different from its predecessor buildings. It is embarked upon with careful planning, which takes half a decade to complete. It reflects the most 'up-to-date amalgam of architecture, landscaping, town planning, technology and economics'. He adds the significance of Raffles City is to be the 'anchor of extensive development in this part of downtown area'. Saying few words before Minister is J Y M Pillay, Chairman of DBS Bank. He points out that it is eleven years ago that DBS under Mr Hon then lays claim on the site of Raffles City. (Duration: 00:14:17)

    3) MP for Bukit Merah Lim Chee Onn at Bukit Merah North Community Centre National Day Celebrations on 22/08/1980. 4) 1st Deputy Prime Minister Dr Goh Keng Swee Officially Opens the South Wing of The Mandarin Singapore  on 01/08/1980. In his speech he compares the supply of hotel rooms which are in response to demand to the supply of pigs to the market, known as the 'cobweb theorem'.  He finds the hotel-room cycle covers period of one 1 year 'from boom to boom'.
