Records contain various docements including 'Philip Sparrow's Story'. An account of his service in the RAF and his time as a POW. Saw service in Sumatra from Jan 1942 and was captured here. Main part of the account details his time as a POW in Tanjong Priok. Was sent in late Dec 1944 to Singapore and camp near Great World (River Valley Road). Account of working parties in various locations including wharfs near Mt Faber. Work digging tunnels which he reckons were for the graves of POWs. They were being dug all over Japan and the occupied territories. One tunnel was about 40 yards long, dug behind the Railway Station. Was moved to Keppel Road Camp at the beginning of August. Notes the large prices paid for goods e.g. a bullock fetches $30,000. Description of the food that was available. Maintains that the Union Jack was hoisted at Keppel Road Camp on 4 September. Saw the arrival of of the 'Sussex'. Left Singapore on 16 Sept. Instructions to allied prisoners following the surrender of the Japanese.
