Records of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Predecessors, FCO 24/312 - Singapore: Legal Affairs: Detention of political prisoners. Secret
1968
Record file contains discussions and correspondence on political prisoners detained without trial in Singapore between the Commonwealth Secretary and Tam Dalyell M.P. Not the policy of the British government to interfere in the internal domestic affairs of a sovereign state but some of them were arrested when Britain still had some responsibility for such matters and the British have a good deal of information on the men which they are unable to reveal, but it does show they are Communists. Information on Koo Young, recently released after 7 months in Changi Gaol. He was formerly acting Secretary General of the Barisan Sosialis. Debate in the House of Commons on political detainees in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. Matter raised by Amnesty International and the United Nations.
