Foreign Pol Dept. 17 Apr 1828, No. 1 - Letter from J Anderson, Secretary to Government, to G Swinton, Secretary to Government at Fort William, transmitting a copy of a letter Anderson has received from S G Bonham, Superintendent of Police, regarding the conduct of Francis Cox at the Carimons. Cox originally went to the Carimons with the intention to erect a furnace for smelting tin but was subsequently asked by Major Elout to assist an expedition from Rhio to the Carimons. Included in this record is a letter from Cox to Bonham, informing the latter of his presence in the Carimons and what he has witnessed of the Dutch proceedings there. He also mentions that when he asked to reside at the Carimons, the Sultan of Linga stated that 'any European from Singapore becoming a settler there it would be highly prejudicial to their interest, should any altercation in future take place on the Island, and therefore disallowed.'
