Foreign Pol. Dept 31 Oct 1863 No. 86 - Letter from C Wood, Secretary of State, to The Governor General of India in Council, in reply and communicating further orders to the latter's letters. Matters include: 1) the delivery of medals; 2) awaiting more information on the piracy case in Sumatra; 3) approval of life-long rent-free grants of land in Punjab to native soldiers; 3) order to Colonel Cavanagh to ascertain whether the Tumongong of Johore was sincere in bringing the accused to justice for murder committed in Pahang; 4) order to continue to submit further proceedings of Dutch aggressions in Sumatra so that any infringement of the 1824 Treaty might be noted; 5) order that 100 copies, rather than three copies, of photographs of tribes in Central India and Nagpore should be submitted; 6) praise of the actions of the 'Deputy Commissioner in British Burmah' to secure satisfactory relations with the Karen Nee tribes; and 7) approval of list of ex-Royal family of Dehli recommended for subsistence allowance.
