Foreign Secret Cons. 8 Aug 1820 No. 1-4 - Correspondence between the British and Dutch plenipotentiaries relating to the following: 1) a disclaimer by the Dutch government of 'any design on their part to win either at Political Supremacy or Commercial Monopoly in the Eastern Archipelago'; 2) insertion of Articles in a treaty concluded by the two countries, namely: i) the freedom to trade with their respective possessions in the Eastern Archipelago and the Continent of India, with the exception of the 'Molucca Islands' until the Dutch decide to abandon the monopoly of spices; ii) the current treaty overrides all previous treaties; and iii) the freedom for communication between native powers and the ports of either government; and 3) a treaty between the Dutch government in India and the Sultan of Sambas. Included in the records is a set of transcripts in Dutch.
