Reports pertaining to Operation 'Jurist', occupation of Penang Island after the Japanese surrender. Correspondence from A.L.F.S.E.A. informing the 14th Army that the objective of Operation 'Jurist' is to provide anchorage and a fighter staging base on Penang. The stages of the re-occupation include: formal acceptance of Penang from the Japanese to be signed on board the HMS Nelson on 3 September; initial landing of 600 Marines; four squadrons RAF Regiment to relieve Marines; NOIC will be in Command of Penang until relieved by the Army; instruction to the14th Army to arrange with NOIC Penang to assume command of the island; and Station Staff type A provided by 12th Army to administer Army troops.
