01/01/1943 - 31/12/1944
South East Asia Command (SEAC) planning papers and correspondence pertaining to Operation 'Culverin' capture of North Sumatra. Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia (SACSEA) approved Air Force plans to implement support for 'Culverin' and the training of squadrons alongside army units. Correspondence from Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia (SACSEA) informed "Mercury" that the use of Singapore by the Japanese as a main Fleet Base favours 'Culverin' or similar amphibious operation in this theatre. Strong SEAC naval forces will be maintained to counter and deter Japanese located on the East coast of India and the Australian shipping routes.
