Reports pertaining to Operation 'Jurist', occupation of Penang Island after the Japanese surrender and prior to the arrival of the Army. Contains Operation 'Jurist' report of proceedings compiled by the Office of Vice Admiral Second-in-Command, East Indies Fleet. This operation is an all-Fleet show, culminating in the Naval Forces being the first to re-occupy previously held British Territory in the South East Asia Command. The Royal Marines of Force "Roma" under the command of Lt. Col. G.B. Grant carried out garrison duties on Penang Island when they first landed on 3 Sept 1945. Force "Roma" disarmed the 3000 Japanese naval personnel they found on Penang Island, concentrated them in the Glugor area, supervised their transfer to the mainland and completed the evacuation by 5 Sept.
