Public statement by Tung Tao Chang in which he revealed that as the chief editor of Nanyang Siang Pau, he was instructed by Mr Lee Eu Seng, proprietor of Nanyang Siang Pau, to allow the publishing of inflammatory editorials by Ly Singko, with the aim to incite the Chinese to violent reactions through the fear for the Chinese language's future. He expressed regret for his situation. He stressed that freedom of speech and press should not jeopardise national existence and social peace.
