WO 203/3135: Photography of beaches and sea approaches
01/08/1944-31/07/1945
Submarine officers were trained to use various types of cameras, focussing and film development. Officers had to obtain periscope reconnaissance photographs as the primary objective and not as a minor sideline to their normal patrol duties. Interpretation of photographs of beaches covered mainly the botanical aspect. The depth of water determination using the transparency photographic method was stressed. The importance of using aircraft for photographic reconnaissance was because of the large area and thin density of the enemy.
