HOCK LAM STREET, ONE OF SINGAPORE'S MOST FAMOUS EATING SPOTS WILL GO DOWN MEMORY LANE WHEN ITS LAST HAWKER MOVES OUT TO MAKE WAY FOR URBAN RENEWAL. A CHECK REVEALED THAT MOST OF THE STALLS HAVE ALREADY MOVED TO THE TEMPORARY HAWKER'S CENTRE BEHIND CAPITOL SHOPPING CENTRE. FEWER THAN 10 STALLS ARE STILL AT THE ONCE BUSTLING ALLEY OF CENTURY-OLD SHOPHOUSES. IT IS LEARNT THAT THE HAWKERS WERE GIVEN A WEEK'S EXTENSION BY THE AUTHORITIES TO MOVE TO THE NEW PREMISES. THEY WERE ORIGINALLY TOLD TO QUIT BY JANUARY 1.
