Synopsis

CF 1 (4 March 2016)

Interviewee grew up in his father staff quarters of Woodbridge Hospital. His father worked as a Hospital Warden. His grandparents came to Singapore from Penang. The five generations of his family were from Penang. He could not trace any family roots from India.

These are recollection of his childhood life and activities spent in the Woodbridge Hospital neighbourhood kampong. Described his parents’ livelihood and pastimes. How he was influenced by his father's upbringing and lessons learned. Shared how his father believed in valuing the community that influenced him to volunteer as a grassroots leader when he was growing-up. How his father helped to cultivate his strong interest in Tamil language.

Special memories of the sport activities in his primary and secondary schools. Recalled how he had acted as Romeo in “Romeo and Juliet” play. Recollections of his army life. How he started his career in the construction arena. How he has studied part-time and completed his master degree in Water and Wastewater Engineering in the early 2000’s. Described his project works and the challenges he faced. How he briefed and reminded his staff on safety and health related matters. How he managed and care for staff welfare.
