His classmates in the university. Campus life.Obtained First Class Honours in Mechanical & Production Engineering. Selected for the premier Administrative Service in government. First day at the Ministry of Finance ( Devt Div). His work there. Felt blessed to have worked under Minister Hon Sui Sen.Overseas conference with Minister Hon. Talked about JYM Pillay. Onerous job of writing paper on industrial land use. About Permanent Secretary Ngiam Tong Dow & Deputy Secretary Bernard Chen.

Made request to move to a statutory board to do operational work. Request granted & was posted to the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation(SBC) as its General Manager(GM). Had no idea of broadcasting. The challenges he faced in SBC. Talked about process of corporitisation.Concept of “shared vision” in SBC. Using golf to assist in staff gelling. About building up Chinese dramas & the immense work involved. Credited Dy Chairman Cheng Tong Fatt for this. Extensive revamping of radio. Setting up of Singapore Cable Vision (SCV)Pushing boundaries in SBC, with no limits for improvement all round. Starting of “Good Morning” show on TV as channel of information. Advent of MediaCorp.Start of a newspaper(TODAY). As well as Channel News Asia(CNA)Teamwork was SBC’s strength after some time.Talked about SBC’s Board.

After 5 very eventful years in SBC, was appointed Permanent Secretary(PS) in the Ministry of Labour(MOL) in 1995. His first impressions of MOL. What struck him about industrial relations in Singapore. Issues handled by MOL. A strong political agenda. Benefits of tripartitism. Influx of foreign labour.
