Synopsis

Interviewee was born in Taiwan.  He spent his childhood and schooling in Hsinchu.   In 1980, he studied briefly at Thomson Secondary School as his father was posted to Singapore for work.  He gave his impression of Singapore then and also talked about adjustment to English as a teaching medium in school.   Interviewee studied automation control engineering at Feng Chia University.   Interviewee worked at United Microelectronic Corp upon graduation.   As the company was expanding overseas, interviewee was sent to Singapore.   He obtained his Permanent Resident status upon arrival in Singapore.  He and his wife adjusted well to living in Singapore.  He also made friends and contacts through religious groups and neighbours.

Synopsis

Interviewee’s work environment was mainly Mandarin speaking.  He compared working conditions and culture in Taiwan and Singapore.  In 2006, interviewee and family moved back to Taiwan for a new job. Few years later, he moved back to Singapore, worked for a company and then decided to set up his company.    Interviewee gave his reasons to apply for citizenship.   The family got along with neighbours and also participated in social service activities.    The family’s leisure activities included going to nature parks in Singapore.
