Synopsis
Conversations with Bose up to 3 am. Guard duty at Bose’s living quarters. Help from the Japanese. Towering personality of Subhas Chandra Bose; his strong willpower. Believed strongly that Bose was killed and not in hiding. Indian National Army (INA)’s objective of ridding India of colonial rule even if it meant violence was necessary. Unhappy that he was not selected to go to India/Burma border to commence guerrilla warfare. Rapport in INA, irrespective of race, caste and religion. His contemporaries in INA. His first encounters with communist guerrillas in Malaya. After Japanese surrender, INA personnel were arrested and charged by the British. But he was let off as he was a civilian. Felt there were British spies in the INA who were passing information to the British. Japanese surrender on 10 Aug 1945. Wanted to return to India at the end of WWII. His own feelings when INA was disbanded. Felt he needed to do something for India. Did not agree with Mahatma Gandhi’s methods. Why he did not return to India, but went back to Ipoh. Given 2-year contract to work in Ipoh. His boss wanted him to marry his daughter, which he agreed and got married in India. Shuttling between Ipoh and Singapore. Wanted to start his own business. Became working partner in Ipoh.
