Synopsis
Came to Singapore at age of nine. Family business in Singapore was not too good, went back to China. Came to Singapore again at age sixteen, stayed at Pulau Tekong. Worked as delivery man. Stayed at Kim Keat Road, Japanese came. Recall stayed at mass-screening centre for three days. He was retained as he wore army boots, how he managed to run away. Life during Japanese Occupation. Worked for Japanese as a guard for short period. Went to work for Japanese in Malaya as a supervisor of tapioca plantation. Recall he won ‘chap ji kee’ (a kind of gambling) and later got married. Felt Japanese (non-soldier) were good to him. Malayan communist he met. Brought his wife to work in hotel in Johor Bahru. How he felt about Japanese, his cousin was killed during Japanese Occupation.
