Synopsis

* Background to the registration of TCM practitioners in Singapore. Why interviewee is interested in this. Interviewee mentioned registering TCM practitioners in his impromptu speech during the opening ceremony of The Public Free Clinic. Why he decided to take on the registration of TCM practitioners when he joined Ministry of Health (MOH). His impression of Dr Wong Kum Leng. Got Dr Wong to set up meeting with Singapore Chinese Medical Union.  What interviewee told the TCM practitioners. Why MOH registered acupuncturist first. Interviewee asked Dr Wong to arrange for an overseas TCM study tour to China.

Why people used to celebrate baby’s one-month birthday in the past.  Why and how China documented the text for TCM.  How he selected his team members for the study tour to China. Synopsis

Registration of TCM practitioners was not legislated prior to the registration process. Lim Hng Kiang entrusted the TCM regulation job to interviewee without questioning. How interviewee tried to involve the TCM community as stakeholder in the TCM regulation. Set up TCM Practitioners Board. Why Chng Jit Koon was asked to head the Board. How the TCM practitioners act was legislated. Interviewee went to support the TCM examination for acupuncturists. Felt that TCM pharmacists needed to be upgraded. Initial reactions to the upgrading of TCM pharmacists. Dr Wong was asked to set the guidelines for TCM regulation before interviewee left MOH. Noted improvements in TCM community after the registration of TCM practitioners. Interviewee’s contributions and views on his contributions to the TCM community.
