*Born 1932 in Singapore. Family background. Used to play sports as a child. How he came to love football. Recollection of football craze in St. Joseph's Institution (SJI), and a football match between SJI and Kota Raja Malay School. Great football players he looked up to.
Recollection of schooling days in Pearl's Hill School. Thoughts on the war when it just started. Air raid experience. Recalled seeing Japanese soldiers build trenches in front of house in Joo Chiat. Food available during Japanese Occupation. Recounted plight of Indonesian immigrants. Learnt Japanese songs in school. Japanese inoculated population against malaria when Occupation started.

*Description of inoculation experience against malaria and cholera at beginning of Japanese Occupation. Father and brother's plight during Japanese Occupation. Family did not suffer from diseases during Japanese Occupation. Food available during Japanese Occupation.
Description of job responsibilities as an apprentice fitter at the Singapore Traction Company (STC) during Japanese Occupation. Working condition in STC. How got news of Japanese surrender and how he felt. Believed older folks had a tougher time during Japanese Occupation. Recounted types of food received from Indian soldiers stationed at Middleton Hospital after Japanese surrendered.
How developed passion for football. Recollection of Choo Seng Quee when he coached him as a kid, and subsequently when Choo was recruited as coach for Singapore Team in 1977. Choo’s personality and how he eventually faded from the football scene following amputation of leg. Played competitive football in the First Division for Tamil Brotherhood Association as a teenager. Stopped competitive play after six months due to knee injury. How Choo trained him and other boys he chose.
How he came to take on Deputy Chairmanship with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) in 1974. Described how he encouraged regular training. Pushed for the first Malaysia Cup to be played in National Stadium in 1974.

Synopsis
*State of Singapore football when took over as Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Chairman. How encouraged players to attend regular training. Issues that hindered growth of football in Singapore. Increased pool of qualified coaches. Singapore football did well internationally after taking over FAS. Moving tournaments to National Stadium was a calculated gamble.
Reasons for initiating the revamp of the National Football League in 1975 and the impact. Difficulty in attracting sponsors. Reasons for launching Lion City Cup (an U-16 tournament) in 1977. Believed that the scheme of training adopted by a national organisation is the secret to the success of a national football team.
Reasons for engaging Choo Seng Quee as coach for the National Football Team in 1977 despite strong objections. Thoughts on why Choo was a good coach. Improved jersey of National Team. Coaches used to allow prejudices to affect decision in selection of team which he did not allow as Manager of the Team. Relationship with players. Talented players that left an impression.
Assessment of professionalism of football in the region in the late 70s. How a professional football player is groomed. Thoughts on the Lions being booted out of Malaysia Cup in 1981. Thoughts on FIFA requirement that the executive committee of a football association should be elected.

*Recounted incident involving Fandi Ahmad as illustration of how coaches can be prejudiced. Sacrifices made as he committed himself to serving as Chairman of Football Association of Singapore (FAS). Described how he came to step down as Chairman of FAS in 1982 and how he felt about it. Believed he bonded Singapore through football during his Chairmanship in FAS. Rewards of serving in FAS.
Involvement in Asian Football Confederation. Did not get any appointments when sat a Judge in the International Court of Arbitration for Sports from 2000-2004. Did not accept invitations to lead football clubs after stepping down as Chairman of FAS. Never considered coaching either. Thoughts on betting and bribery in football. Thoughts on how to develop interest in local football. Thoughts on strategy of importing foreign talents to play in Singapore football and the chances of Singapore team getting into World Cup in the next decade.
