*Frustrations faced at Khinco. Worked a few months at Sembawang Shipyard. How he got job with the U.S. Navy Office as a Buyer. Career development in U.S. Navy. Pay structure and welfare benefits. Work responsibilities of locals and expatriates. Started own business in 1984. How he got involved in social and clan associations. Listed social and clan associations that he was involved in. Associations he helped form - the Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Material Management Association, the Tanjong Katong Complex Merchant Association and the Association of Singapore Insurance Agents; and the reasons for setting them up.
Reason for joining Heng Jai Lim Clan Association. Origin of "Lim" surname. How family felt about his deep involvement in the many social, clan and grassroots organisations. Besides time, money contribution was required in clan associations. Involvement in merchant associations helped in grassroots work. Expressed the challenge in attracting younger volunteers to be involved in grassroots activities.
