Synopsis
Born in Singapore in 1929. She is Cantonese. Stayed in Chinatown since young. Recalled many prostitutes of higher class known as "pipa zai" staying there. Studied at old-style private school. Studied at free primary school before war. Recalled bomb raids before war. Shortage of rice. Males in that area were "screened". Girls, including her, stayed at home most of time, afraid to be taken away by Japanese. People in Chinatown area welcomed British soldiers after war.

Synopsis
Heard about beating traitors to death in that area. As a girl, was told it was not proper to be out in public too often. Went to Nan Hua Girls Primary after war. Later went to Nan Hua Teachers Training School. Taught at few primary schools after leaving Nan Hua. How she joined Rediffusion. Rediffusion offered free installation for Chinatown area during initial stage. Programmes popular with Cantonese listeners in Chinatown.

Most coffee shops in Chinatown installed Rediffusion and business became better. The Gold and Silver networks of Rediffusion. Never had thought of becoming broadcaster, but eventually liked the job very much. Taught at school in Malaya before she became broadcaster. Salary and benefits at Rediffusion. How she, with zero knowledge of broadcasting, learned on the job. Rediffusion broadcasters hosted programmes alone, unlike broadcasters at Radio Singapore.

Began broadcasting by herself in very short time. Had to handle records and tapes during broadcasting; made mistakes. Many listeners would call to complain. Rediffusion broadcasters began to have game shows in HDB estates in 1970s. Why she did not use "stage" name. Hong Kong supplied variety of Cantonese radio programmes. One of them is "Radio Novel", a one-man storytelling program. But local Lee Da Soh's storytelling was more popular. Lee Da Soh's style of story telling. Program Lee Da Soh did that used percussion instrument called "wooden fish".

Performance involving "wooden fish" was form of traditional art. Popularity of Lee Da Soh's storytelling program. Hong Kong Rediffusion was closed in 1973, but Singapore Rediffusion Cantonese programming was not affected. Why and how Cantonese Radio Drama group was set up. She was in charge of this group, helped train group. They were given chance to record radio drama only at later stage. Reason for this. Later, this group had chance to perform at "variety road shows".
