Synopsis
*Shahar Bin Husin, born in 1935 in Pasir Panjang, is the second child out of 11 children that made up of six boys and five girls. Both Shahar’s parents were of Bugis descendents. Shahar’s father was a fisherman whom to Shahar was a loving and soft spoken father. Shahar described his growing up days in the kampong. He’s considered to be from a quite well-to-do family. His grandmother had a land and rented out houses. Shahar’s interest in football sparked ever since he’s a young boy when his father always brought him along to the stadium to watch football matches. Moreover Shahar’s father played the game himself in the right wing position.
Shahar began his education in Sekolah Melayu Geylang. He was staying with his uncle who was a teacher at Geylang Lorong 27. Shahar moved back to Pasir Panjang when he could not stand his elder cousin who was very fierce with him. Shahar continued his studies at Sekolah Melayu Pasir Panjang from Class (Primary) one to four after which at Sekolah Melayu Kota Raja from Class five to seven. Shahar became a trainee teacher after that but discontinued when he contracted malaria while teaching at Pulau Semakau. Shahar then worked for Shell for three years before working in Tan Tock Seng Hospital for eight years as a Record Keeper besides playing for the hospital football’s team. Shahar related on the jobs he had after he left Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Shahar described how he first got involved with Fathul Karib. The team went to Second Division in his first year but got back to First Division the following year. Fathul Karib became famous when they beat Tigers SA 3-1 in the First Division. Tiger was one of the strongest team in the league. Shahar occupied the striker position.
