Synopsis

Childhood on 60-acre farm in Ireland. No running water, electricity or wireless. Schooling from age six. Walked three km to school except when raining. Went to Convent boarding school. At age 19 went to London to study nursing. Memories of London. Second World War (WW II) - served in hospitals. Overseas posting via troopship. Accompanying naval ship bombed. Stops: Port Said (six weeks), Bombay, Poona (10 months), Bihar.

Synopsis

Came to Singapore, 1945. Posted to Alexandra British Military Hospital - stories of massacre, salaries, transportation. Shopping at Robinson's. Studied in University of London, 1946, for Sister/Tutor Diploma. Returned to Singapore. Became Assistant Tutor, School of Nursing. Then Principal Tutor. Nurse intakes, curriculum. Social life: dinners with friends, hospital dances in Raffles Hotel, picnics, Christmas with golfing friends, Hari Raya and Chinese New Year visits.

Stayed a year, returned to United Kingdom. About Alexandra Hospital massacre, and her job. Returned to Singapore, 1950, as nursing sister - General Hospital (GH). Left in 1955, married, returned in 1962. About students. Joined Gleneagles Hospital as administrative sister.
