Synopsis
Father involved in business in Singapore. Attended Nagapathinam School. Studied English and Tamil. Women mainly housewives and girls rarely went to school. Belongs to Mudaliar caste. Mudaliar caste involved in business and some were cloth weavers. Lived in a single attap house and came from poor background. Life centred around home and school in early days. Lower caste segregated from main stream of society.

Synopsis
Came to Singapore in 1950. Some impressions of Singapore through relatives, father and friends who came here to work. Worked in Suppiah's shop at Sembawang Road. Shop sold provision goods to Indian community. Manimagalai shop famous in Sembawang in 1950s and 1960s. Salary for workers was $50 to $70.There were tailor shops, betel leaves stalls, radio shops. People mainly lived in quarters and attap houses.
