Reasons for not wanting to serve in PAP Central Executive Committee after only one term. Appointed Parliamentary Secretary to Ministry of National Development (MND) after 1959 General Elections till 1965. From 1975 served as Senior Minister of State (PM Office). His belief that responsibilities shouldered on him was due to his ability to influence people to follow government principles.

Synopsis
He initiated Ahmad Ibrahim to form Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) to take over role of Majlis Penasihat Islam (MPI). Function of MPI. Approached Jamiyah and Dr Hamka from Indonesia to study proposal of MUIS. Public and organisation gave support but after tabling proposal in Parliament, they withdrew support. Staged rally where he confronted and challenged them.

In charge of resettlement of Malay kampongs. Reasons for not objecting to resettlement. His comments on a proposal of Kampong Melayu at Geylang Serai. Sent to Philippines with Rahim Ishak, Wee Toon Boon and Lee Khoon Choy in 1969. Why he was selected. Returned to Singapore in 1971 due to his health. Continued as Minister of State.
