Synopsis
Became apprentice at age of 13. Attached to shipyards and factories during training. Examinations apprentices sat for. Staff welfare provided by Keppel Shipyard. European engineering works employees better paid than those in Chinese engineering works. Chinese engineering works mainly around Lavender Street area. Most technicians in the past were Cantonese. Why he chose to join Keppel Shipyard instead of Chinese engineering works. Worked in Trengganu mine upon completion of training. Returned to China to get married one year later.
