Asked by employer, S F Ho, to join Straits Chinese British Association (SCBA) in 1940. Monthly meetings held. Took down minutes of meeting for S F Ho who was Secretary. S C Chan, member of Legislative and Executive Councils.Yap Pheng Geck and Tay Lian Teck, members of Municipal Council. Impressions of Yap Pheng Geck. After the war, Chinese volunteers of Straits Settlements Volunteer Force were co-opted as members of SCBA. Progressive Party received support from English-educated Chinese.

Peranakan's perception of Singapore independence and People's Action Party (PAP). When Singapore became independent, Peranakans had to give up British passports. Some emigrated; Eurasians emigrated also.
