Synopsis
Father Soh Tian Hoo came from China. Stayed at Nee Soon Road. Bought three plots of land, namely Heng Lee, Heng Hup and Sa Bek Siam. Planted gambier and pepper at Heng Lee, pineapple at Sa Bek Siam and rubber at Heng Hup. Planters were mainly Hainanese. Father's generosity towards villagers in Heng Lee estate. Father employed private teacher to teach him.

After father died only Heng Hup rubber estate remained. Father was acquaintance of Tan Kah Kee. Lim Nee Soon bought land at Kangkar, the area near Thong Aik Road market. Economic activities at Kangkar. How gambier was processed for sale in city after being harvested. How villagers bearing surname Phua came to settle in Heng Lee estate.
