Working life in textile shop. Returned to China due to ill health. Back to farming and later started a sundry goods business with his brothers. His business techniques differed from elder brother's old fashioned methods. Business stopped because of looting by bandits. Again went abroad to Samarunda in Borneo. Worked for a clansman, in sundry goods and local produce business.

Reowned business after Japanese surrender. Experienced difficulties in operating mill especially after Indonesia's independence. Had to wind up rubber business voluntarily.
