[79 pages] The Special Technical Corps was a unit under the British Royal Air Force (RAF). The members of the unit was told in October 1945 that the Corps would cease to exist after 31 October 1945, and they would have to wait 6 weeks before for a decision on their pay. They wrote to H T Pagden, the Advisor of Chinese Affairs, to seek clarifications.
Pagden wrote to the Head Quarters of the British Military Administration (BMA) asking if a clear, ensuring statement can be given to these men. He also lodged a complaint against a guy called Watts Carter, who was working for RAF, for mishandling the case.
A meeting was held to discuss how to deal with the Corps, which decided that members of the Corps who was drafted to Japanese labour camp should go on 2 months paid leave (paid in rations), and report to the RAF on 1 Jan 1946 to await instructions. For those who were not drafted, they should receive a maximum of 2 month’s pay, after which the RAF would have no more liability towards them.
