40pgs – File comprised the New Year Messages of 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1963 by Inche Yusof Ishak, Yang Di-Pertuan Negara of the self-governing state of Singapore. He delivered the Messages for broadcast on New Year’s Eve over the Malay and English networks of Radio Singapore while translations of the messages were broadcast over the Chinese and Tamil networks. The Messages were a look-back at the past year and a prognosis of the next in the context of the times. These four New Year Messages provided a snapshot of Singapore’s journey from a self-governing state (3 June 1959) to merger with the Federation of Malaya within the framework of Malaysia (16 September 1963).
