  • Synopsis :

    Three segments  covered in this programme:"

    1.   MRT  -  a segment of Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) has come into operation for about four months. This segment looks at how the MRT has affected the lifestyle of Singaporeans, what can be done to attract more people to use the MRT and how other transport modes can complement the MRT.  


    2.    The US GSP Graduation   -   in January 1988, the United States (US)  announced its decision to graduate the four Asian Newly Industrialised Countries (NICs), namely, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan with effect from 2 January 1989, as they are no longer developing countries. This segment looks at the response of Singapore to the development,  as well as  the impact of the US Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) graduation and the wider economic implications for Singapore.


    3.      Pay School Fees Through GIRO   -    Singapore's Ministry of Education's (MOE) pilot programme on the General Interbank Recurring Order (GIRO) scheme for the payment of school fees has received good response. The MOE has decided to implement the scheme to all schools by the end of 1988. This segment looks into the implications of the scheme and features feedback from the users.
